TO THE METEOROLOGICAL  O F F I C E .

SINCE I WOULD BE VERY UNFORTUNATE TO BE WITHOUT THE RUSSIAN METEOROLOGICAL REGISTRATIONS FOR 1882 IN THE SERIES CURRENTLY UNDER MY SCRUTINY, AND GIVEN THAT IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO HOPE FOR TO BE ALLOWED TO BORROW THEM FROM THE NEAREST FOREIGN METEOROLOGICAL OFFICE, I VENTURE TO BE SO BOLD AS TO APPLY FROM THE ESTEEMED DANISH METEOROLOGICAL OFFICE TO KINDLY LET ME BORROW THE AFOREMENTIONED YEARBOOK AND TO LET ME KEEP IT FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS, OR ALTERNATIVELY PERHAPS YOU COULD BE SO KIND AS TO SEND ME A SHORT RECOMMENDATION, WHICH I COULD ENCLOSE TO AN APPLICATION TO THE HAMBURG METEOROLOGICAL OFFICE, OR SOME OTHER NEARBY OFFICE CONCERNING SUCH A LOAN.

                                                                       RESPECTFULLY

                                                           R. Malling-Hansen[1]

[1] CB: This must refer to data that Malling-Hansen needs in relation to his studies about fluctuations in the growth of children and the heat of the sun – his new and vast field of interest. During this period, and for a number of years, he collected data about climate and growth from all over the world.
