My Dear Mr Edg Collin    !

My most sincere thank you for accepting Captain Feiberg’s[2] article; it is excellently written, clear and informative; it is most certainly an asset for “Nationaltidende”.

                        Warmest regards from your devoted

[1] CB: This is the second letter from RMH to Collin written on the same day – May 2’nd 1887 – and the other letter seems to have been written first – since RMH in that letter is almost begging Collin to accept an article about RMH’s work with periodical growth fluctuations etc. At this point, it seems that Feilberg’s article has in fact been published in “Nationaltidende”? The first letter of the same day refers to the other newspaper, “Dagbladet”.

SA: Both papers were established and owned by the important Danish founder of newspapers, Jean Christian Ferslew (1836-1910), and it is quite likely that Collin contributed articles to both papers.

CB: In the first letter of May 2 to Collin, RMH is much more formal – using the third person singular and formal titles – whereas in the second letter he is informal, warm and friendly, using the informal second person singular. Alas, our dear Rasmus had a somewhat sanguine character – full of temperament!

[2] SA: Feilberg was a good friend of RMH. He is depicted in the painting for Malthe Engelstedt from 1888, showing the four friends playing at a game of ombre. His full name was Gustav Johan Ludvig Feilberg (1836-1895), a captain and archivist at the Defence Department.
